Parking fees to be linked to GSI

Consistent with promises made by the Chancellor’s Office that CSUEU-represented employees would not pay any more for parking fees than employees represented by CFA, CSUEU has entered into a side letter with the CSU which links parking fee increases to the percentage increase of any general salary increase. Furthermore, such increases will go into effect only if students are paying more than CSUEU-represented employees. Under no circumstances shall parking fees for CSUEU-represented staff exceed those paid by students.

The Side Letter, which was signed on May 10, 2007, explicitly rescinds Article 21, sections 21.16 and 21.17 of the contract, as well as the side letter on future parking fees, which had been signed on October 27, 2006. This means that parking fees will NOT be increased up to the previously negotiated additional amounts of $3/$6/$9 over the life of the contract.

Effective July 1, 2007, parking fees will be increased by the amount of the cumulative general salary increase for FY 2006/2007, which was 4% (this includes the 3% GSI, which was effective in August 2006, and the recently-approved 1% GSI, which was retroactive to January 2007). Employees will pay higher parking fees only on campuses where students are paying higher amounts than staff.

According to information we have been provided with, there are six campuses where students pay the same amount as staff. These include Bakersfield, Chico, Maritime Academy, Monterey Bay, San Francisco, and Stanislaus. Therefore, there will be no increases in parking fees on these campuses. Nor would there be any increases in parking fees for employees at the Chancellor’s Office.

Employees who work on the campuses of Fresno, Fullerton, East Bay, Humboldt, Pomona and San Bernardino will see parking fees increase from $12 to $12.48, effective July 1, 2007.

Employees who work on the campuses of Dominguez Hills, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Northridge, Sacramento, San Luis Obispo, San Marcos, and Sonoma will see parking fees increase from $14 to $14.56, effective July 1, 2007.

Other increases to be effective July 1, 2007 include: Channel Islands - from $24 to $25; San Diego - from $21 to $21.84; and San Jose - from $18 to $18.72.

For fiscal year 2007/08 and thereafter, parking fees will also be increased by the percentage amount of the General Salary Increase.

The Chancellor’s Office also agreed that CSUEU-represented employees who work at more than one campus shall no longer be required to purchase multiple parking passes. This has been a major problem for some of our represented employees, including dispatchers, interpreters, realtime captioners, and student health center employees.
