State budget update
Despite the holdup in the state budget, CSUEU represented employees will continue to receive their paychecks on time. However, the raises provided under the new collective bargaining agreement will be delayed until the budget impasse is broken.Once a state budget is approved, and assuming the higher education "Compact" is fully funded in the state budget, the raises will be paid retroactively in full.
Nearly two months after the constitutionally mandated deadline for state lawmakers to send a final budget to the governor, Senate Republicans continue to block the deal approved July 20 by a bipartisan vote in the Assembly - a deal that has the support of Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. The 14 Republican senators blocking passage of the budget are demanding further cuts to spending and concessions on non-budget issues, including how Attorney General Jerry Brown is allowed to carry out the California Environmental Quality Act. When the Legislature returns Aug. 20 from its summer recess, lawmakers will have just four weeks until the end of the session, unless Schwarzenegger calls them back for a special session.
