Bargaining Update: November 6, 2009

The bargaining team today settled a statewide furlough grievance that had been filed shortly after the start of the furloughs program. The settlement lifts a restriction that the Office of the Chancellor had placed against employees taking more than one furlough day per week.

This settlement also allows both employees and campus administration to reexamine furlough days that have already been scheduled, if they choose to do so. That is, employees will be permitted to resubmit their requests for employee choice days, while, in addition, campuses may revisit their furlough closure schedules.

“The restriction on taking more than one furlough day per week made furloughs more onerous on individual employees and campuses,” explains CSUEU Vice President for Representation Russell Kilday-Hicks. “We are glad to see CSU correct the problem and provide flexibility in these difficult circumstances.”
