Bargaining Update 2011 #12
October 4, 2011
On Monday, October 3, 2011, the CSUEU bargaining team firmly rejected management’s take-back proposals on Article 24 (Layoffs). The union characterized management’s proposals as an attack on job security and a last-minute monkey wrench to negotiations. The CSU/CSUEU contract expired on June 30, 2011, yet CSU did not make their Article 24 proposals until nearly three months later, the last session in September.
In response to CSUEU’s charges, CSU’s negotiators replied that their intent was misinterpreted and that they did not intend all of the changes that CSUEU understood from their proposal.
“We were glad to hear that explanation from management,” said VP for Representation Russell Kilday-Hicks. “However, they still have layoff proposals on the table which would eliminate red circle rates, allow management to cherry-pick employees with ‘specialized skills’ exemptions, and gut key contract protections. Job security is a central concern of all our members. The proof of management’s intent will be in the next proposal they pass on Article 24.”
The latest session began on October 3 at the Cal Poly Pomona campus, and negotiations continue through Wednesday, October 5.
