You can sit on the sidelines and watch your pay decline and your rights disappear, and wait for someone else to decide your contract and your family's future. Or you can get informed, get active and get ahead. It's your decision. We encourage you to join the union!
FIGHTING FOR OUR FUTURE! Our vision for the CSU
Job Security | Fairness | Shared Commitment | Rights Enforcement
JOB SECURITY
- Temporary employment is not a long-term solution. State employees built the state university system with a job commitment - permanent employment. The CSU has replaced that commitment with a temporary work force that eliminates job security and benefits for thousands of working families. A third of the support staff are temporary employees and almost three-quarters of new hires are temporary positions. The university is permanent -- why aren't we?
- Contracting out substitutes profit for performance. The public good is best served by the contributions of dedicated state employees, not fly-by-night contractors who promise great work at cheap prices but deliver low-ball performance. An administration that tries to replace health centers with HMOs, technical services with mega-corporations, or custodians with illegal immigrants simply doesn't know the value of the taxpayer's dollar.
FAIRNESS
- PBSI is pucker pay! Robbing Peter to pay Paul is no way to run the university. Staff are sick and tired of "performance pay" given out on an arbitrary way to political favorites. Nothing is more demoralizing than the great annual "pass-over" and another year of broken promises for recognition. Don't throw good money after bad and don't increase pucker pay!
- Job evaluations should be standardized and fair. Job evaluations should focus on performance not mud-slinging. Clear, precise criteria and objective ratings done by someone who knows the work -- that's the only fair way to measure a person's performance.
SHARED COMMITMENT
- CSEA is a union for all employees and needs your support. We live in a collective bargaining workplace. Our wages, hours and working conditions are defined by the contract our union negotiates. We have seen attacks on service pay, health care, permanency and pay. Without our union we would be working more for less! Too many employees stand on the sidelines while our rights are under attack. We need your membership, your voice and your leadership.
- Fair Share will strengthen our union. There are 22 campuses in the CSU system, covering one of the largest states in America. We need an effective, well-staffed union to provide protection and bargain effectively. Fair Share will involve all employees in their contract at a lower cost than current union dues.
RIGHTS ENFORCEMENT
- Knowledge is power. The contract, the education code, Title 5, whistleblower -- our rights as state university employees span statutes and policies. CSEA wants you to know your rights. We sponsor training programs, distribute manuals, and post on our Web site to ensure that you can find the information you need for your job protection.
- Stewardship. Job stewards are needed for every building and every department to make sure that any employee can get advice and assistance. Stewardship is protected by the law and guaranteed by the contract. More stewards will provide more security for employees and involve all types of employees, from blue collar workers to professionals.
AND THE REST OF THE FUTURE....
...is in your hands. You can sit on the sidelines and watch your pay decline and your rights disappear, and wait for someone else to decide your contract and your family's future. Or you can get informed, get active and get ahead. It's your decision.
