CSUEU leadership will be in attendance at this month's Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting, held at the Chancellor's Office in Long Beach, and will be speaking to the Trustees during public comment periods.

If you attended the CSEA General Council in September, 2009 at the Westin Bonaventure in downtown Los Angeles and used a credit card at a hotel restaurant or thevalet parking, be aware that your credit card information may have been stolen by a hacker.

Inside CSUEU: Network maintenance this Saturday 3/20

The full text of Pat's comments is below:

I want to thank you for this opportunity on behalf of the 16,000 employees I represent. I regret to inform you that the issue of layoffs at the Chancellor's Office, CSU East Bay and CSU Humboldt is a difficult one indeed. The layoffs are as follows: one layoff at the Chancellor’s Office, 86 employees at CSU East Bay, and 65 at CSU Humboldt. We take these notices very seriously, and we’re working hard with university to make sure they are implemented in accordance with the CSU/CSUEU contract.

A rough start was reported for the layoff of 86 employees at CSU East Bay. Workers were brought into administrative offices in groups to be told they were being laid off, with uniformed police officers on hand. Unfortunately, television news cameras were there, filming without our employees’ knowledge or permission. That was unfortunate, but it’s behind us now. We hope we can move forward. We have begun a dialogue with CSU Humboldt and Chancellor’s Office and hope that those layoff notices can continue to be implemented in a more reasonable way. We are awaiting replies so we can get on with mitigation and save jobs. We hope the CSU system’s budget will restored to some realistic level so it protects our staff and so we can increase our role to meet students’ needs. I’ve delivered a copy of my last budget update, written after the January Board of Trustees meeting. In it, I pointed out that the CSU has been living with budget cutback problems over 10 years. With the CSU, we are making contacts with legislators, urging restoration of funding. We appreciate the work that presidents are doing to mitigate or prevent layoffs.

We want to make sure you are aware of the impacts of cutbacks, and we know we are working in concert with you in our efforts to help legislators understand those impacts. Campus presidents, you will be all hearing from our members soon. Chancellor Reed, the measure of our relationship is our ability to reach an agreement on mitigation of layoffs. So, please, direct campus presidents to go to the table so we can work on the layoffs with them. Thank you.

Here's the revised agenda and meeting schedule for the next Board meeting, March 26-28, in Sacramento.

CSUEU Board and other members approved for HQ -funded travel should have received an email with registration instructions.

Attached is a revised CSUEU BOD meeting schedule for the March 26-28 BOD meeting at the Holiday Inn Capitol Plaza.

It reflects only one revision to the meeting schedule, the day of the week for the BUC 7 and 9 meetings, and two to the BOD agenda, the addition of an omitted committee--our wonderful Finance Committee and our speaker name and time certain has been added.

A couple quick reminders:

Please register now if you are a member of a committee, BUC or BOD, using a registration link that you should have received via email earlier this week. If you have not received the link, please notify me as soon as possible.

Who is required to attend a CSUEU BOD meeting? The 36 members of the CSUEU BOD (24 chapter presidents, 4 statewide officers, 4 statewide BUC chairs and 4 statewide BUC vice chairs) are required to attend; also required are all members of BUCs and committees that are listed on the attached meeting schedule. CSUEU will fund you to attend your specific committee, BUC or BOD meeting, but not the entire weekend (with the exception of the BOD & Finance Committee, which is funded for the duration of the BOD meeting.)

Who may attend a CSUEU BOD meeting? CSUEU committee, BUC and BOD meetings are open for attendance unless otherwise noted as “closed,” in which case only those assigned to that session may attend. Unless you’re a required attendee, CSUEU will not fund your travel or other expenses; you may attend by using your own or chapter funds. To request chapter funding, contact your chapter president and treasurer, or express your interest during your chapter’s next executive committee meeting.
