CSUEU leaders throughout California will be attending our regional forums on the budget, furloughs, layoffs, and how to best prepare for FY 2009-2010.

Peggy O'Neil-Rosales and Chapter 315 is hosting the southern forum on Feb. 13 at CSU Long Beach, and Nancy Kobata and Chapter 309 is hosting the central forum on March 13 at CSU Fresno.

TO: CSUEU Board Members

I assembled a small budget task force of key committee chairs and officers to get some things started. Below is a report of what we covered and started some work on. I now ask that the Organizing, Communications, Legislative, Bargaining and Finance committee chairs share this with their committees for feedback. The main goal is to provide and to collect as much information as we can. There will be a BOD conference call in the near future once I get a copy of a resolution from the Legislative committee regarding the March 4th Public Education Rally.

I am also draft a letter to the Chancellor urging him that the restored funds be used to reduce the need for layoffs or furloughs in the next budget year. Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns or ideas. Here is the report:

In-person: February 19, 2010 in Sacramento, 10am - 4pm (location TBA) (Ray Finnell not available for this meeting; he nominated Joe Dobzinsky to sit in for him)

Inside CSUEU: Special CSUEU Board meeting to adopt resolution on March 4th activities

Shortly after 2 p.m. today, CSUEU notified its Board that CSUEU is holding a special meeting of the Board of Dorectors today at 7 p.m. to adopt the resolution below in support of the March 4th day of action in support of California higher education funding.

If you are a Board member or alternate, you should have received an email with details.

The Board meeting is being held by conference call, and is open to all members.

Inside CSUEU: SEIU Scholarship Program application period open

From Sr. Communications Specialist John Watson:

As members of SEIU Local 2579, CSUEU members are eligible to apply for the SEIU Scholarship Program on behalf of themselves or their family members. Through five different scholarship programs, SEIU awards 52 scholarships that enable SEIU members and their children to pursue their educational goals at colleges, universities, labor study programs and technical schools. The application period is now open, with applications due by March 1.

The date has been set for the next CSUEU Board of Directors meeting. From Dayna Ramos:

Based upon feedback from the BOD regarding the March 2010 board meeting, most wanted to keep the original date or either didn’t care. As a result, here’s the date and location:

As usual, registration will be secured online and I will be sending out the link end of January beginning of February.

Inside CSUEU: New on The Activist: Your Files

In the Organizing File Downloads page, I've added a folder for Your Files.

Every Chapter has flyers, posters, handouts, and other documents that work well for communication with your membership. You can now upload and share these files with other Chapters.

To use Your Files:

1. Login to http://activist.csueu.org

2. Click Organizing tab

3. Select File Downloads from the Table of Contents

4. Select the Your Files folder.

Uploading a file: Click the green plus sign icon at the top of the Document column (looks like: ). Select your file, click Update. At the second screen, enter a description. Then click Update one more time.

Want to receive an email every time a file is added or updated? Select the Your Files folder, then click on the top-most envelope icon (looks like: ) next to the word Uploaded. After you agree to be notified on changes, the icon changes an envelope with a blue plus sign. (This trick works on any folder or individual file!)
