Here's the revised agenda and meeting schedule for the next Board meeting, March 26-28, in Sacramento.

CSUEU Board and other members approved for HQ -funded travel should have received an email with registration instructions.

Attached is a revised CSUEU BOD meeting schedule for the March 26-28 BOD meeting at the Holiday Inn Capitol Plaza.

It reflects only one revision to the meeting schedule, the day of the week for the BUC 7 and 9 meetings, and two to the BOD agenda, the addition of an omitted committee--our wonderful Finance Committee and our speaker name and time certain has been added.

A couple quick reminders:

Please register now if you are a member of a committee, BUC or BOD, using a registration link that you should have received via email earlier this week. If you have not received the link, please notify me as soon as possible.

Who is required to attend a CSUEU BOD meeting? The 36 members of the CSUEU BOD (24 chapter presidents, 4 statewide officers, 4 statewide BUC chairs and 4 statewide BUC vice chairs) are required to attend; also required are all members of BUCs and committees that are listed on the attached meeting schedule. CSUEU will fund you to attend your specific committee, BUC or BOD meeting, but not the entire weekend (with the exception of the BOD & Finance Committee, which is funded for the duration of the BOD meeting.)

Who may attend a CSUEU BOD meeting? CSUEU committee, BUC and BOD meetings are open for attendance unless otherwise noted as “closed,” in which case only those assigned to that session may attend. Unless you’re a required attendee, CSUEU will not fund your travel or other expenses; you may attend by using your own or chapter funds. To request chapter funding, contact your chapter president and treasurer, or express your interest during your chapter’s next executive committee meeting.

All day: everyone is asked to wear black to show support and to mourn the death of the Master Plan for Higher Education, plus letter-signing campaign to Governor Schwarzenegger and local legislators.

CSU DOMINGUEZ HILLS — 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: “All Aboard the Fast Track to Graduation” - Students hold a fair on CSUDH East Walkway Games to learn about public education costs, access and quality; games include Wheel of Fortune, Fishing for Classes, and Darting for Money. Lots of posters and banners -expecting hundreds of students to participate. Sponsored by Students for Quality Education.

CSU EAST BAY — 11a.m.: Campus Open Mic/Speak Out to “Defend Public Funding for Public Education” at Agora Stage, including music and performances

FRESNO STATE — 10:30 a.m. “March & Rally for Public Education”: Staff and faculty from CSU Fresno and community supporters will march from the northwest corner of Blackstone and Shaw to the University, where a rally will begin at 11:30 am in the Peace Garden featuring several speakers, including CSUEU chapter President Nancy Kobata as well as the CFA and ASI presidents.

Friday, March 5: CSUEU members will pay visits to local legislators to make sure they received the message from the previous day’s activities.

CSU FULLERTON — 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.: CSUEU joins with APC, students, and other campus unions for a “Rally in Support of Increased Funding for Public Education” at the fountain area in front of Langsdorf Hall. We are inviting our president and all our VPs to speak, as well as union representatives and state and local political figures.

HUMBOLDT STATE — 3-5 p.m. “Fund Public Education” Rally in front of Humboldt County Courthouse-Eureka with CSU and K-12 faculty and students. Participants include CSUEU, CFA, Southern Humboldt Teachers Association. Contact: Chryste Johnson

CSU LONG BEACH — Noon–1 p.m.: “Unite for Education” & “Stop Clowning with Our Education” rally at South Campus, Upper Quad, with petition signing, music, performers, speakers, aerial banner.

1–2 p.m.: Parade

CALIFORNIA MARITIME – Noon: “Stop the Bleeding” action, main quad. Street theatre, mock “Die-In.” Contact: Chuck Constantine

CSU MONTEREY BAY - Noon to 3:30 p.m.: Student-led Teach-In Rally, with extensive participation and organizational assistance from CSUEU and CFA, in the Main Quad in front of the Student Center on the CSUMB Campus.

4 to 6 p.m.: Rally for all of education in California, with participation by K-12 teachers, community colleges, and CSUMB, Colton Hall in downtown Monterey, where California's first constitution was written in 1849, and which has served as a public school at various points in its history.

SAN DIEGO STATE — 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Next to Aztec Center. "Vent at the Tent: How is San Diego State important to you, your family, and the community?" Collecting video testimonials from students, campus community. Large "scoreboard" showing the loss of students, teachers and classes at SDSU due to budget cuts.

SAN FRANCISCO STATE — 10 a.m. to noon: information picket line at 19^th and Holloway); 1 p.m.: rally in Malcolm X Plaza (Cesar Chavez Student Center, SFSU); 5 p.m.: mass rally of the entire Bay Area education community and supporters, Civic Center Plaza across from SF City Hall.

Inside CSUEU: Upcoming regional forums

CSUEU leaders throughout California will be attending our regional forums on the budget, furloughs, layoffs, and how to best prepare for FY 2009-2010.

Peggy O'Neil-Rosales and Chapter 315 is hosting the southern forum on Feb. 13 at CSU Long Beach, and Nancy Kobata and Chapter 309 is hosting the central forum on March 13 at CSU Fresno.

TO: CSUEU Board Members

I assembled a small budget task force of key committee chairs and officers to get some things started. Below is a report of what we covered and started some work on. I now ask that the Organizing, Communications, Legislative, Bargaining and Finance committee chairs share this with their committees for feedback. The main goal is to provide and to collect as much information as we can. There will be a BOD conference call in the near future once I get a copy of a resolution from the Legislative committee regarding the March 4th Public Education Rally.

I am also draft a letter to the Chancellor urging him that the restored funds be used to reduce the need for layoffs or furloughs in the next budget year. Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns or ideas. Here is the report:

Inside CSUEU: Special CSUEU Board meeting to adopt resolution on March 4th activities

Shortly after 2 p.m. today, CSUEU notified its Board that CSUEU is holding a special meeting of the Board of Dorectors today at 7 p.m. to adopt the resolution below in support of the March 4th day of action in support of California higher education funding.

If you are a Board member or alternate, you should have received an email with details.

The Board meeting is being held by conference call, and is open to all members.

Inside CSUEU: SEIU Scholarship Program application period open

As members of SEIU Local 2579, CSUEU members are eligible to apply for the SEIU Scholarship Program on behalf of themselves or their family members. Through five different scholarship programs, SEIU awards 52 scholarships that enable SEIU members and their children to pursue their educational goals at colleges, universities, labor study programs and technical schools. The application period is now open, with applications due by March 1.
