Gov. Brown Appoints Two CSU Trustees

In this July 6 press release, Governor Brown announced his appointment of Lupe Garcia of Gap Inc. and Hugo Morales of Radio Bilingüe Inc. as new CSU trustees.

Governor Brown Announces Appointments

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments.

Lupe Garcia, 43, of Alameda, has been appointed to the California State University Board of Trustees. Garcia has served in multiple positions at Gap Inc. since 1999, including associate general counsel, senior corporate counsel and corporate counsel. She served as an associate at Lafayette and Kumagai LLP from 1995 to 1999. Garcia is a member of the Ethics and Compliance Officer Association and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area. She earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Garcia is registered decline-to-state.
 
Hugo Morales, 63, of Fresno, has been appointed to the California State University Board of Trustees. Morales has been executive director at Radio Bilingüe Inc. since 1980. He served as an adjunct lecturer of the La Raza Studies Program at California State University, Fresno from 1976 to 1979. Morales received the Edward R. Murrow Award from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in 1999 and the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship in 1994. He earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Harvard Law School. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Morales is a Democrat.
