CalPERS approves huge pension reform
Against the wishes of most public labor unions, the CalPERS Board of Administration voted to change a key accounting policy that will add billions of dollars to what the state, local governments and schools districts pay for pensions.
CalPERS board OKs accounting changes hiking pension costs
Leaders of the California Public Employees' Retirement System voted this afternoon to speed up payments on the fund's long-term liabilities with an accounting change that will trigger higher contributions of up to 50 percent from taxpayer-funded state and local governments and school districts over the next few years.

A bill that would have let unions and retiree groups exploit CalPERS' annuitant mailing list for marketing purposes has died by the author's own hand.
