2018 in Union News
In its 5-4 decision today on Janus v AFSCME, the Supreme Court just made it easier for big corporate interests to rig the economy further by dividing working people.
Who is Janus?
Backed by ultra-wealthy-millionaires, a worker in Illinois, Mark Janus, sued his union AFSCME claiming that it was a violation of his rights to require him to pay "fair share" fees in return for union representation and other benefits. Janus wanted the same pay raises and benefits, but he wanted it without supporting the union.
Right now, almost every CSU represented employee is a Union member. That makes us a strong force in contract bargaining and a strong voice in the Legislature. If we can get others to join, we become even stronger.
