Near the end of a nationally famous three-day festival that celebrates garlic and all who love it, a gunman armed with an assault rifle shot and killed 6-year-old Stephen Romero, of San Jose. The gunman also shot Stephen’s mother, Barbara, who remains hospitalized in critical condition. The toll from the latest mass-shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival on July 28: 3 dead; 12 injured. Stephen’s father, Alberto Romero, is a residential apprentice and union member of the IBEW Local 332. Stephen’s mother is a Santa Clara County worker and member of SEIU Local 521.
