Show Up Union Strong for CSUMB Budget Update 5/23

Union members, CSUMB leadership will be holding a Budget Town Hall on Thursday, May 23rd from 9:00am - 10:30am in the World Theater to share their final budget update for the 2024-25 academic year.

This is an important opportunity for all of us to hear directly from university leadership about the finalized budget reductions and projected budget. With the significant impact these decisions will have on our working conditions, and the overall educational experience for students, it is crucial that we have a strong union presence at this Town Hall. Please make every effort to attend and make your voice heard on these critical issues facing our university.

A united front will send a powerful message that we are watching closely and committed to protecting our union members interests through this process.

Important Considerations for Voluntary Work Reduction!

Union members considering Voluntary Work Reduction should be aware that this decision may impact several important aspects of their employment. It's a significant decision that requires careful consideration of all potential implications such as:

CalPERS retirement calculations.
Health insurance benefits.
Vacation accrual rates.
Future career progression and opportunities.
Exempt status (for those in exempt positions).
Whether the reduction is temporary or permanent.
Potential repercussions for terminating the agreement with CSUMB before the agreed-upon period.

The answers will then be shared back with all members via future newsletter updates and union meetings. This allows us to collectively voice concerns, clarify uncertainties, and ensure important matters impacting our workplace are properly addressed.

Welcoming Our New LRR: Paul Lechtenberg

Welcome to our new Labor Relations Representative, Paul Lechtenberg! We're excited to have you on board and look forward to working together to support our members' rights and interests. Here's a brief overview of Paul's background:

"Paul is assigned to campuses at Cal Poly SLO, Monterey, and San Jose State. He started his organizing career in the Hotel and Restaurant Workers Union and then spent 5 years as an International Rep at the Bakery Workers Union before moving to California to work for United Health Care Workers West (UHW)."

With his extensive experience in labor organizing and representation, Paul brings valuable knowledge and skills to our team. We're confident that his dedication and expertise will greatly benefit our members and strengthen our union's efforts.

CSUEU Statewide Elections - Reminder to Vote!

Reminder! From June 20th - June 28th, the Statewide Elections election period opens for: President, Vice President for Organizing, Vice President for Finance, and Vice President for Representation.

The vote will be conducted electronically and only members are eligible to vote. Non-members can sign up now and receive an electronic ballot in June.
