CSUEU Announcements

Budget Talks
Gov. Gavin Newsom and state leaders are nearing a final budget deal, with some last-minute talks still underway. The $321 million plan fully funds the CSU.  Here are the highlights of what is known thus far:

  • The CSU won't get a 3% budget cut in 2025, but $144 million will be paid later in 2026–27.
  • Some promised funding for 2025 will be delayed and split up: CSU will get a 2% increase in 2026–27, a 3% increase in 2028–29, and a big payment of $252 million in 2027–28.
  • The state will give CSU a backup line of credit in 2025–26 in case it runs low on money during the delay.
  • Sonoma State University is getting $45 million.
  • $5 million will help small campuses with few students to recruit more.
  • These smaller campuses must make a plan to grow their student numbers and give it to CSU leaders by the end of 2025. CSU leaders must then send all the plans to the state by March 1, 2026.

With this budget, legislative leaders and the Governor are telling the CSU and Board of Trustees they are not getting a blank check. Soon it will be in the CSU’s hands.  Will they honor their commitments to staff students?  We will know in July whether the union will need to ‘suit up’ on our behalf.

Unions Work!
At our last chapter meeting, we talked about how working at CSU is political—and here’s one example why. A misleading mailer from the Freedom Foundation is being sent to some union members, trying to get them to drop their CSUEU membership.

  • The mailer spreads false claims, like all of our union leaders are making six-figure salaries (truth: most of us are volunteers!), while the Freedom Foundation is backed by billionaire donors trying to weaken unions across the country. Why? Because strong unions like CSUEU get results.
  • Just some of our recent wins:
    • CSUEU helped secure full funding for the CSU budget
    • won us over a 10% raise in our current contract – that is more than I have seen in my almost 20 years working for the CSU.
    • defends members when management crosses the line.

We fight for better pay, conditions, and respect on the job.

  • The Freedom Foundation doesn’t care about workers—they want to divide us to take away our power.

Don’t be fooled. When we stand together, we all do better!
