Union Announcements

CSU Executive Raises vs Staff Bonus

  • CSU Board of Trustees approved increased compensation for campus presidents & 13 executives received 5 to 20 percent base-pay increases retroactive to July.  In addition, executives will receive performance-based raises next year all while the CSU claims insufficient funds for fair staff raises but grants executives pension-boosting increases & what is the engine of the CSU being offered?  A one-time, heavily taxed bonus that won’t be used toward retirement.  Well, that was a gut punch.
  • Union Action

·       CSUEU and Labor Coalition of our sibling unions demonstrated at the Nov. 18 Board meeting.  You can hear Karen Malone’s statement (48.52-50:05) and other CSUEU/Union statements throughout the Tuesday, 11/18 session.

·       Our demand: Use the 144 million dollar state loan to honor the step progression promise.

  • Contract Bargaining begins in 2026 so keep an eye out for a survey that launches December 1.
    • Also, members, now’s the time! Tell the bargaining team what they/we should be fighting for in our next contract.  Submissions will be accepted through December 31, 2025.

AI Misconduct by CSU Lawyers

  • CSU lawyers submitted a legal brief using AI-generated, fabricated quotes.
  • The case involves CSU’s attempt to block Resident Assistants from joining the union.
  • A Judge disciplined CSU legal counsel for submitting error-filled, unverifiable content.
  • The Union asserts they will continue fighting for student worker rights and expects CSU to use real human legal work.

SEIU California 2025 Convention

  • Members statewide gathered to help choose political leaders in which more than 13 CSUEU members participated.
  • Priorities adopted from the convention:
    • Defend democracy and civil freedoms
    • Protect communities from federal threats and cuts
    • Grow union strength and worker power
    • Build a California where working families can thrive
  • Statewide One Voice townhalls are connecting workers with 2026 local and state Primary candidates.

ICE Separation at Cal State Long Beach

  • A CSUEU member’s wife was detained and deported during ongoing ICE crackdowns.
  • Family now faces legal, financial, and emotional hardship.
  • A colleague created a GoFundMe to support legal fees, travel, and living expenses.
    • This moment is a reminder that we are always fighting for our rights and dignities together," - Agustin Frausto, a friend and co-worker on campus. Please consider donating if you can. Even a small amount will show our union brother he is not alone during this difficult time."

Karen Malone is stepping down as the Organizing Chair

  • Please join the e-board in thanking Karen for the years of commitment, care, and advocacy she has poured into our chapter. Her leadership has mattered deeply. We will miss her on the board, and we are grateful she will continue as an active member.
