2018 in CSU News
Together, We Rise.
Thanks to the Office of the Chancellor and the President of CSU Chico, we have negotiated a new Emergency Leave with Pay provision for the employees impacted by the Camp Fire. To date, there are some 250 who lost their homes in Paradise.
In addition, the Catastrophic Leave Donation Program was modified to allow Chico employees to donate their time credits to those with property loss. Contact HR to request time off or to donate time. Thank you, CSU Chico! #StrongerTogether
Starting in November, the President of CSU Chico may grant emergency leave with pay to bargaining unit employees impacted by the Camp Fire. There is no time cap on the amount to be granted. If interested, please contact the Chico State Human Resources Department to donate time or request time off.
In addition to emergency leave, modifications to the Catastrophic Leave Donation provisions allow for Chico State employees to voluntarily donate credits to other Chico State employees due to a catastrophic illness or injury, or whose principle place of residence has been impacted by a natural disaster/state of emergency. (Underlined text is new language added.)
The Union has requested that the CSU allow employees statewide - not only from Chico State - to donate their credits. That proposal is being reviewed.
The following is the final negotiated contract language:
"In order to alleviate the suffering and distress of employees affected by the Camp Fire in the Chico area, the California State University Employees Union (CSUEU) and the California State University (CSU) agree to the following:
Paid Emergency Leave: California State University Chico Effective from the start of the November 2018 pay period, an emergency leave with pay may be granted by the President to a CSU Chico bargaining unit employee impacted by the Camp Fire, where such a leave is considered necessary for the protection of the health and safety of the employee.
This provision shall expire on 06/30/2020 absent a specific written agreement by the parties to extend it further beyond that date.
This Agreement shall be considered a Side Letter to the current CSUEU-CSU Collective Bargaining Agreement."
