With the Assembly’s overwhelming 69-3 bi-partisan vote supporting CSUEU-sponsored Assembly Bill 369 (Weber), the bill moves to the state Senate where the Education Committee is expected to hold a hearing next week. Just as we did in the spring when we flooded the Assembly with nearly 1,000 letters, we need at minimum to match that effort with the Senate to ensure AB 369 successfully arrives on the Governor’s desk. AB 369, authored by Assemblymember Dr. Shirley Weber, and co-sponsored by SEIU and Teamsters, would restore annual salary steps for CSU support staff. A salary step is an incremental merit increase in salary that employees receive based on a satisfactory evaluation. The CSU took away salary steps 23 years ago, and has been unwilling to discuss reinstating steps since. CSU support staff are the only state employees without salary steps. Every letter counts so make sure to get yours in! Mail your letter to your Senator directly to the State Capitol (see address provided below). We know that CSU administration and campus presidents are vigorously opposing AB 369. Write your letter today! Here’s a step-by-step guide to getting started: Type or hand-write your AB 369 support letter. Use CSUEU talking points but do not simply cut and paste the sample letter. Click here for sample. It is critical to “stay on message” but also to personalize your letter such as incorporating your personal story of not progressing through your salary range. Go to the Find Your California Legislator page. Mail your letter ASAP to your state Senator c/o The State Capitol, Sacramento, CA 95814. No room number is needed.
