We have a tentative agreement with the CSU that covers the impacts of telecommuting on employees during the Covid-19 pandemic. Since the coronavirus outbreak last March, CSUEU has urged the University to work with us to develop systemwide policies that would help campuses implement more consistent standards and metrics as employees’ working conditions dramatically changed. The tentative agreement on telecommuting, reached in late December, is the first systemwide negotiated agreement between CSUEU and the CSU related to the pandemic. Some highlights of the agreement include: 1. Appropriate administrators will identify if additional equipment or supplies are needed for employees’ telework assignments (including additional wireless or internet services). 2. If additional equipment or supplies are needed, the administrator may A). Provide the equipment or supplies; B). Authorize employee to make the purchase and receive reimbursement; C). Provide alternate work location that has the supplies or equipment needed. 3. CSUEU withdraws prior charges made with the state Public Employment Relations Board related to telecommuting and agrees that this memorandum of understanding satisfies our concerns. The agreement retroactively applies to telework assignments implemented at the start of the pandemic (March-April 2020). The same identification of expenses should take place and if the assignment required additional costs per supervisor direction, those expenses can be claimed. Verification and expense forms will be required. 'The agreement helps make CSU policies clear and consistent across campuses for University employees,' said CSUEU President Catherine Hutchinson. 'Collaboration between our Union and Management is critical as we navigate Year 2 of this unforgiving pandemic together.” The pandemic vastly increased the number of teleworking employees. There is no way to predict how long the emergency will require telecommuting but the Union and the University are working to ensure safety measures are in place to protect all CSU employees. Once finalized and signed, the agreement will be posted on the union website.
